Buying a Mattress - The ultimate Buyers Guide

Buying a mattress is a very important decision. Before Buying a mattress you should be aware of the various types of mattresses out there.

  • Pocket spring mattress
Pocket Sprung Mattresses have long been a household favourite. The Pocket Sprung Mattress contains small springs individually contained in their own pockets so each spring works independently to support and mould to the contours of your body. These mattresses offer "no roll together" which means they are ideal for couples of varied weights.
  • Open coil mattress
Open Coil springs are the most frequent used in mattresses. They all link together the equally distribute body weight across the mattress surface. Stability is further increased by the border wire that encases the edges.
  • Visco-elastic mattress
More Commonly referred to as a Memory Foam Mattress. Memory foam is a breatable material that is heat responsive and allows the mattress to completely mould to your body shape. Memory Foam Mattresses are Hypo-allergenic and promote good circulation.
  • Latex mattress
Latex is a hypo-allergenic polymer material that again adjusts to the body contours. This material is highly resiliant and durable as well as breathable to provide a more comfortable nights sleep.

Choosing the right mattress size
The old-fashioned double bed provides only 26 inches of sleep space for each person. That's about the same amount of space as a baby crib. Today's modem Queen or King mattresses will fit just about any bedroom. The bigger, the better.

How much to spend on your mattress
Don't scrimp. Shop for the best value, not the lowest price. Mattress prices are determined by the materials used, the quality of construction and the size. Considering the amount of time you will use a sleep set, the cost is actually only pennies per night. In mattresses, you get what you pay for.

Mattress Warranty
A warranty is for the purpose of protecting you against product defects, not against gradual loss of comfort and support. Don't look to the warranty to tell you how long your mattress and foundation should last.

Mattress specifications
Make sure the mattress has an innerspring and at least eight inches thick. Sit on the edge and check for support and return to original shape. Check coil counts: full-size should have at least 300, queen-size at least 375 and king- size at least 450. Research indicates that only innerspring mattresses and foundations provide the proper support.
